Julius and Augusta Rosenwald
Julius Rosenwald and his wife, Augusta Rosenwald, pose aboard a ship for this news photograph from early in the twentieth century. Julius Rosenwald was a part owner of Sears, Roebuck and Company and a philanthropist with a particular interest in African American education. He established the Rosenwald Fund in 1917, which led to the construction of thousands of schools, known as "Rosenwald schools," throughout the South.
