George R. Cowan's Confederate Military Record
This Confederate muster roll, dated December 11, 1862, notes that George R. Cowan enlisted for a three-year military term on May 2, 1861. A member of Company I, 37th Virginia Infantry, Cowan is listed as being on furlough for the months of September and October 1862. He had been wounded on August 9, 1862, during the Battle of Cedar Mountain (called "Cedar Run" here).
