Know the Truth and Vote for Boothe
A detail from a paid political advertisement for Armistead L. Boothe's 1959 campaign for state senator bears the headline, "Know The Truth And Vote For Boothe." In the full-page advertisement that followed, Boothe claimed that his opponent, M. J. Beverley, "'energetically embraced' massive resistance, or school closing" and that he was backed by the Defenders of State Sovereignty and Individual Liberties, a political organization dedicated to preserving strict racial segregation in Virginia's public schools. This clipping, from an unidentifed newspaper, is part of the collection of Boothe papers at the University of Virginia.
