Enniscorthy in Albemarle County
This twentieth-century photograph shows the main house at Enniscorthy, a plantation in Albemarle County established by John Coles (1705–1747). Coles emigrated to Virginia from the town of Enniscorthy in County Wexford, Ireland, and named the plantation after his hometown. The original house was destroyed by fire in 1839; this building dates from 1850. The well-known Washington, D.C., photographer Frances Benjamin Johnston took this photograph in 1932.
