Mary Randolph Cary
This is a twentieth-century painting of Mary Randolph Cary, the wife of Archibald Cary who served as Speaker of the Senate of Virginia from 1776 to 1786. The original eighteenth-century portrait of her, attributed to either Charles Willson Peale or Charles Bridges, was destroyed in a fire at the Virginia Executive Mansion in Richmond in 1926. The artist Anne Fletcher made this copy shortly after the fire. This copy portrait is part of the Commonwealth of Virginia's art collection.
