Items for Sale in Colonial-Era Williamsburg
A broadside advertises "A very large curious & compleat Assortment of European and India goods" being offered at Tarpley, Thompson & Company in Williamsburg in the early 1760s. The store offered a wide array of luxury goods, including silks, brocades, carpets, shoes, hats, gloves, china, glassware, cutlery, and silver—"a very great variety of almost every Article that can be thought of, suitable for this Country." The goods were imported to Williamsburg from London and Bristol, England. The elaborate engraved border is illustrated with coffee pots, candlesticks, stockings, shoes, and other items sold in the store.
