Annie Dillard is a poet, essayist, and novelist known for her intensely poetic and precise prose. Dillard won the Pulitzer Prize in 1975 for her collection of narrative essays, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. The volume was published several years after Dillard graduated from Hollins University in Roanoke and written while living alone in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
