Bill Kelso with Jamestown Artifacts
In 1993, the Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities (APVA) hired archaeologist William M. Kelso to oversee the newly established Jamestown Rediscovery project. The project was designed to explore and research the site of the original Jamestown colony on Jamestown Island, acquired by APVA in 1893. The major result of the project was the discovery of the remains of the original Jamestown fort in 1996, but Kelso (pictured here) and his team also unearthed thousands of artifacts from the colony.
